IT offers web hosting services to the College. We strive to provide a more customizable alternative to the CAC and a more reliable alternative to local servers without automated backups or auxiliary machine support (UPS, server monitoring, etc.).
Our webserver has un-interruptable power source prevents any short-term power loss problems. It is monitored by software that will notify our web administrator should a failure occur. The server will automatically re-start itself if there has been no response for longer than twenty minutes. The server is backed up daily. However, we also recommend keeping a local copy on your webmaster's machine.
We offer the option of using a customized URL (virtual domain) such as www.sova.psu.edu or www.arthistory.psu.edu.
We will provide you FTP access to the root folder of your website, but not the root of the server. This ensures that you will be able to change what you need without accidentally overwriting another area's site.
Any custom CGI's will need to be given to Rich Karten (richk@psu.edu) for testing. There are already plug-in's provided with the server. Contact Rich for more information.
We provide an initial allocation of 200MB. If more is needed, you should contact Rich.
Contact Rich if you would like to see statistics on your website use.
We offer web hosting services to any office within the College of Arts & Architecture. This service does not provide space for students to upload projects.
To request this service, download the IT Request for Services form, fill it out, and return it to IT at 203 Schwab Auditorium.
