Information Technology provides hosting services for Filemaker Pro databases. This hosting service enables multiple users to use the same database at the same time. The database physically resides on the Arts and Architecture Filemaker server, but can be opened and used by anyone with the proper password access.
The process starts when a user has a database that should be shared. That user is the database owner and will be responsible for establishing the proper database security. IT will grant the database owner permissions to upload the database or take the file offline for alteration. Please contact Rich Karten at 3-6395, if he's not available any member of the IT staff can assist you.
IT can provide assistance to users who are designing databases, but ultimately the owner is the one responsible for issuing passwords and granting permissions to any database users. Only the database owner can request a copy of the database.
All databases are backed up on a daily basis. If the server should fail for some reason, we will be able to restore your database. We strongly encourage the database owner to keep a copy of the original file for reference.
